A Piercing for me and me only
To look at me, you wouldn't think I'd be someone who enjoys piercings. I have 8, all of which are fairly invisible as 2 are in my navel and the other 6 are hidden by my hair (Tragus, Anti-Tragus, Rook, Anti-Helix and an Industrial ((Which I count as 2 as there are two holes)).
I had always wanted at least one facial piercing and my fascination had always been the lip, but after finishing my GCSE's and coming back for the prom and seeing seven of my school mates had gone and got the exact piercing I wanted, I lost the urge to get one.
A few days ago I was in town with a bit of spare cash and had all intentions of going into my favourite piercing shop and demanding a piercing. As to what one I wasn't entirely sure yet but I refused to go home without one.
As glad as Chloe, my piercer, was to see me, she couldn't help get frustrated when i stood around the shop and whined about not knowing what to get.
Then a girl, a few years older then myself walked in. To me, her face was a work of art. It was perfectly symmetrical. She had two eyebrow piercings in each eyebrow, a Bridge, a ring in each nostril and snakebites. But the thing that really caught my eye was her septum.
I had never seen one look so beautiful. It was a delicate ring, much smaller gauge then you normally see. I had to have one!
The only thing that stood in my way: Mum.
I love the woman, I mean she gave me life. But, my God, she gets in the way sometimes. I rang her up and asked if I could get it done and her exact words were, "If you come home with a ring through your nose then I shall rip it out. No daughter of mine is going to look like a bull!"
Of Course in the Uk it doesn't really matter what your parents think if you're 16 or over as that's the legal age to get pierced, I just don't enjoy getting the silent treatment in my own home.
When i hung up looking thoroughly depressed Chloe asked what was up and I explained the situation. I expected her to rattle off another list of piercings I should get but she clicked her fingers and smiled.
"There's an easy way around that!"
She explained to me about using a retainer. It would make the piercing completely hidden unless i wanted people to see it! I was in love with the idea.
All my piercings I do for myself but this one really would be mine, all mine!
I agreed to it. She went and set up and Matt handed me the forms. I filled it out and jokingly put i was pregnant. For that he made me get out my ID even though i'd shown him it before.
I went and sat on the table/bed and gripped the edges. I asked my favourite question, "Uh... Chloe? Is this going to hurt?" Her response was a look that plainly said, "Yes Flo, Yes it is going to hurt."
She didn't use a clamp as she prefers to do things free hand unless she's having a real difficulty (IE my anti helix).
"Flo, You have a crooked septum."
"Is that a problem?"
"No. Just commenting. But Flo it's really crooked which means this has to be done at an angle. Why is your septum cartlidge crooked but your nose not?"
Long story which involves me at the age of 11 falling from a tree nose first into a pile of bricks and smearing my nose across my face and several operations.
The needle going through just felt like being hit in the face by your brother. I have never cried over a piercing (not even my Rook which hurt like a BITCH!!!) but this one made my eyes water a bit. It was definately not the worst piercing i've ever had but it wasn't the easiest to be going with.
I looked in the mirror and was glad to see that it wasn't crooked despite my nose shape.
Chloe taught me how to flip the retainer up and down and with it up you could not tell it was there.
I paid, thanked and left. I didn't leave a tip because i'm skanky and when i try to tip they tell me not to bother because i give them so much business anyway and i'm there every saturday.
Mum immediately pounced on me when i got home, "Did you get it done?"
"No mum you told me not to do it so i didn't!"
"So what did you get instead?"
"VCH."
"What's that."
"Never mind mum."
Unfortunately, I'm a sweller, so when i woke up Sunday morning my nose was a bit bigger and red. Mum noticed and i pretended to be coming down with a cold. She grabbed my face and pushed it up and looked up my nasal. She pushed me away and gave me the evils and didn't start speaking to me until half an hour before writing this.
Taking care of it is easy. Just fill a cup of hot water and salt and blow into it, it's kind of awkward at first but it's also quite fun.
I definately recommend this piercing. No matter what people say: it's a beautiful one.
